A window net is a safety device used in rally cars and other types of motorsport. It consists of a strong net installed on the driver's side window (and in some cases also on the passenger side) with the following main functions:
-
Accident Protection: Prevents the driver's arms or head from exiting the window during rollovers or collisions, reducing the risk of serious injury.
-
Object Barrier: Prevents debris or objects from outside from entering the cockpit during a race, protecting the driver.
-
Ease of Removal: It is designed to be easily removed or released in an emergency, allowing a quick exit from the car.
Window nets are made from resistant materials, such as nylon or polyester, and must follow specific safety standards defined by entities such as the FIA (International Automobile Federation).
They are essential in rally cars, drift cars, track days and circuit races , where driver safety is a priority.
